Skiing is one of the most fun family activities as well as being an extremely healthy sport. The skiing season is almost upon us once again and now is the perfect time to prepare for that holiday on the slopes.
Children will absolutely love the excitement of a ski holiday whether you’re heading to Europe’s favourite resort of Val D’isere or skiing under the Northern Lights in Scandinavia.

Booking and packing
If your children haven’t yet learned this life-long skill then make sure to prepare them for what’s in store. If they’re beginners you can stoke their enthusiasm by hitting the dry ski-slopes at home and showing them online videos of your chosen resort. When booking, remember that this holiday isn’t just about hitting the snow; this is your chance to enjoy some amazing locations whether in Europe or further afield in Canada and even Africa.
Check with your travel operator that your resort offers ski lessons and beginners slopes as well as self-catering or chalet options suitable for families. Also remember that it’s a good idea to compare those family ski insurance policies from different providers to ensure you get a good deal. Packing for your trip shouldn’t be too difficult and resorts will hire ski equipment for all ages. It is standard procedure to rent boots, skis, poles and helmets but you can also hire jackets and pants from specialist snow sports shops instead of buying; don’t forget the thermals and sunscreen.

Family fun on the slopes
Ski holidays are an immense amount of fun for the entire family whether you’re beginners or seasoned veterans of the slopes. But it’s not just skiing – there’s also snowboarding, tobogganing, sleigh rides and ice skating. There’s nothing better for parents than seeing their children enjoying this new sport and watching their confidence grow each day. There’s always plenty of fun to be had off-piste as well and resorts will provide nightly entertainment, swimming pools, restaurants and cinemas.
Excursions can also be taken to points of interest in the country you are visiting. For example, if you happen to be in Spain’s Sierra Nevada mountain range in Andalusia you can actually ski in the morning and hit the beaches in the afternoon.
If you’re considering a family activity holiday in beautiful locations around the world then skiing is second to none. This is also one holiday that includes a sport that can easily become a life-long passion.
