Izborsk Fortress


Izborsk Fortress is settled in western Russia and its history dates back to the 7th century. It is an old medieval castle which was set up by the Slavic Krivich tribe. The first wooden version of the fortress was made In the 10th century and its stone incarnation was built in the 11th century. This current structure of the Izborsk Fortress was built mostly in the 1400s, also at that time the fortress was relocated to a new site which was some hundred meters away from the previous site. The fortress was abandoned in the 16th century but now it has been restored by the Global Heritage Fund.
Church of the Ascension


The Church of the Ascension was built in the sixteenth century in Kolomenskoye. Prince Vasili III built this church to commemorate the birth of the successor to the Russian throne. The church is located in Kolomenskoye which is a former royal estate of Moscow. The building of Church of the Ascension is made up with white stone and its tent roofs set it apart from other churches. In 1994 the church was listed in the UNESCO’s list of World Heritage sites.
