Hawaii – also known as the Aloha state for its peaceful, welcoming atmosphere and way of life – is often thought of as being an expensive destination, perhaps because of its outstanding natural beauty and endless miles of beautiful shoreline.
This doesn’t have to be the case. If you manage to find a relatively inexpensive hotel, it can free up some of those dollars to be spent on more important or fun things, like helicopter rides over Hawaii’s many active volcanoes!
By some stroke of luck, it just so happens that we have compiled a list of some of Hawaii’s best cheap hotels! Carry on, dear reader…
Aston Maui Lu – Kihei, Maui

One of the first resorts to be built on the south shore of Maui, Aston Maui Lu’s ocean front rooms offer unparalleled views of the Pacific, as well as pure privacy. Recently renovated, the Aston has beautiful tropical grounds and its pool is shaped like Maui itself.
One of the star attractions is the coconut grove – the oldest on the island – and each room has its own refrigerator, not to mention free parking and access to the tennis courts! A real steal.
Manago Hotel – Captain Cook, Hawaii

On Hawaii’s Big Island (actually called Hawaii but referred to by this nickname to avoid confusion with the state as a whole), this property is the second smallest on the list, offering just 64 rooms. It is very affordable, catering for visitors both long and short term, and also offers magnificent views of the ocean, as well as great panoramas of Pu’uhonua o Honaunau – the National Historical Park.
It has a Japanese tatami room and is famous for its pork chops. The menu is a delight, serving both authentic Hawaiian dishes as well as Japanese specialties, for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Aqua Hotel Molokai – Kaunakakai, Molokai

This hotel is famous among Hawaiians from the other islands, as it offers an inexpensive, authentic stay. It is rather basic, but this only adds to its charm – Molokai is much less touristy than the other main islands, and this in turn means the natural beauty is untouched and pristine.
With only 53 rooms, you know you’re in for a pleasant, unspoiled stay, and each room has its own lanai. Molokai has the highest sea cliffs in the world, offering truly awe-inspiring views of the Pacific, and if you’re lucky you can see humpback whales – Molokai is on their winter migratory route. The receptionist can even offer to book you a mule ride around the mountainous island, for a uniquely unforgettable experience.
As you can see, there are plenty of opportunities for hotels in Hawaii when you’re on a tight budget – we have only mentioned one hotel on each of three of the six main islands, so there are plenty more available to you, depending on where you want to stay! By staying in a less expensive hotel, you’ll have more money to try out the local cuisine and experience more of the tourist attractions!
Kauai Vacations
As Hawaii’s oldest main island with lots of sites to see Kauai is a great place to vacation to. There are many national parks to visit such as Bell stone, Moloaa Bay and Poipu Beach Park.
