Sometimes when you are looking for a vacation you don’t want one of those top travel destinations, you want what I would call, one of the away travel destinations. What I mean by one of these away vacations is a vacation where you are away from it all, no TV, no Wi-Fi and not even any bars on your mobile. This is a true vacation for relaxing with no possibility of some unforeseen event interrupting the peace and tranquillity that you need and have earned. These kinds of destinations are no so easy to find and so here are a few possibilities that you may want to consider in the UK.
Purton Green, Suffolk

This is a thatched house with a grand hall that dates back to 1250. It is located 400yds from the nearest road and so a wheel barrow is provided for the carrying of luggage. This is not a house that was just built in the middle of nowhere; it is what remains of a once thriving village but what was once the main thoroughfare has now diminished into a footpath. Over the years the rest of the village disappeared leaving this ideal destination for those who may be seeking some real peace.
Blagdon Water House Boats, Devon

These are three traditional canal barges located 100yds apart on a privately owned waterway. Each of the barges has its own solar powered boathouse and 35 acres of undisturbed rural countryside. In one of these you certainly will not be disturbed, unless of course you consider the occasional passing Barn Owl or Kestrel, a disturbance.
Rhenigidale Hostel, Harris, Western Isles

The Western Isles of Scotland are already considered somewhat remote but Rhenigidale has no shop or pub and didn’t even have a road to it until 1990. The hostel has 13 beds upstairs and a shared kitchen and lounge downstairs. The hostel can provide magnificent rugged views of the Harris coastline and a peace and tranquillity rarely matched.
Skiddaw, Scales Plantation, Cumbria

These are three shepherd’s huts, each set in its own glade. Although these are certainly remote and off the grid, they can offer some real comforts in the form of extremely comfortable bedding, full kitchen and luxury bathroom.
Old Kilmory Church, Argyll and Bute

With views of the Isles of Skye, Rhum, Eigg and Muck, this converted church is just a stone’s throw from the British mainland’s most westerly point and so is hardly surprizing that there is no television or phone reception. The conversion provides a comfortable abode with log burner and cushioned seating at the windows to allow you to contemplate as you look out over the silent graveyard to the isles beyond.
Trannish Island Bothy, County Fermanagh

Apart from the newly, smartly fitted bothy, there is also a campsite nearby but this location is truly for the hermit in training. To gain access to this true away destination, you must first paddle to the island in one of the rental kayaks or canoes, not forgetting to take all your food and water supplies with you.
