If a beach holiday is what you’re after, you should consider Cancun, Mexico. Holidays in Cancun are well known for superb beaches, crystal clear waters, and pristine white sand. The Mexican government recognized the importance of tourism and in 1967 the result was this southeastern paradise known as ‘The Glistening City’. Here’s the top three things to do in Cancun.
Whaleshark tours

Take a look at Cancun on Google Maps and the potential for soaking rays in undeniable. But many people prefer heading into the water. Cancun offers the expected opportunities for scuba diving, boating, water skiing, tubing and swimming – but the Whaleshark tours stand out from the crowd. These tours peak through the summer as this is the Whaleshark season. These extraordinary animals are safe for the family to swim with, and may well be the highlight of the trip.
Searching the Cenotes

For those with good cardio, Cancun stands out from other destinations with its Cenotes, or Sinkholes, as they’re better known. There are many opportunities to explore these Cenotes, which are open to the public. Three of the best of these ancient Mayan ‘sacred wells’ are within driving distance from the resort. The Cenotes were often sights of Human sacrifice, and there are other (building) remains accessible within driving distance.
The El Rey Ruins

When the Mexican government chose to build on the fishing village of Cancun, they knew what they were doing. The site is rich in Mexican heritage, with signs of Mayan civilization dotted around and nearby the city. The “El Rey”, an archaeological site, is based at the Sheraton Cancun Resort and Towers – right within the city. Convenient and accessible, these ruins are easy to see in a short time but don’t lack for depth. And if you’re a fan of wildlife, hundreds of Iguanas have taken the ruins for their home – a perfect photographic opportunity.
Cancun is served by an international airport (CUN) and is Latin America’s most important leisure destination. It has the infrastructure to rival world-class destinations around the globe. Flights can be remarkably cheap if you book in advance. Whatever the cost, Cancun is a destination you won’t forget.
